It is not always easy to adapt to living on a gluten-free diet. But there are ways to make it a lot simpler. The following tips will help you to love your gluten-free life.

5 TIPS

1. BE PATIENT

At the beginning you may have the impression that a gluten-free diet requires eliminating everything that you love eating. Sometimes you feel like gluten is everywhere and you are not sure what you can eat. This feeling can last up to several months after beginning the diet. After some time you will start to feel comfortable and confident with your nutrition choices, so be patient. It will get better!

2. DON’T CHEAT

Decide that you will not cheat on yourself. At some point you can start thinking that being on a gluten-free diet is not worth it, especially if the symptoms were not heavy. Sometimes you can use excuses that there is just too much gluten around and it is not possible to avoid it. Perhaps you do not want to make a fuss around yourself and you do not want to stand out while eating with others. So you allow yourself to eat gluten. Please don’t, remember that your health counts.

3. INVEST IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

Buy a cookbook and find proven recipes and basic information about the specifics of gluten-free cooking and baking. Read articles, authorized and signed. If you are looking for an opinion about a product, send your questions to the producer. Just because a product was safe six months ago does not mean that nothing has changed in the factory. If you are looking for advice, also ask competent people who have knowledge of the topic you are interested in. If you are reading internet gluten free forums, always confirm the information you get, you may unconsciously harm your health. If you have symptoms and do not know what’s wrong with you, do not ask others each organism is different and reacts differently. Monitor your diet, if you want to find out what harmed you, start a meal diary. Consult a dietitian or a doctor. Searching for information on a gluten-free diet will require time and effort, but it will pay off. When reading the tips on the Internet be careful. Anyone with a computer can become an expert immediately. Search for reliable websites. Buy books on a gluten-free diet.

4. BECOME A FOOD LABEL DETECTIVE

Labels are the key a safe, gluten-free food. Buy products with a crossed grain or “gluten free” labeled products. If there is no information about allergens, read the list of ingredients carefully to determine if the ingredients contain gluten. Reading labels may seem overwhelming but you will learn it faster than you think.

5. TAKE THE CHALLENGE

Bread is the foundation of your daily diet. You can buy many types of ready gluten-free breads in supermarkets and health food stores, etc. The gluten free bread can also be ordered at online stores. Or find a good recipe. Consider buying a bread machine. This  machine and a mixture of flours will make life easier. At first, the taste and texture of your own gluten-free bread may seem strange, but do not give up, try a few recipes. You will be surprised how quickly you can change your habits. Good luck!

At first, you may think that a gluten-free diet is the worst thing that could have happened to you. But you will change your mind, I promise. At some point you will find a gluten-free diet as something common and natural. I keep my fingers crossed for you.
