COELIAC GOAL
#CautionGluten #Cross-Contamination

Public campaign The goal of this campaign is to draw attention to cross-contamination of gluten-free foods in stores.

Coeliac disease is a condition where your immune system attacks your own tissues when you eat gluten. This damages your gut (small intestine) so your body cannot properly take in nutrients. Coeliac disease can cause a range of symptoms. When a person with celiac disease eats gluten, the immune system sees gluten as a threat and mounts an attack. However, it ends up damaging the villi of the intestines, which help to digest food. Damaged villi make it nearly impossible for the body to absorb nutrients, leading to malnourishment and a host of other issues.

Let’s take care of food safety together.
Let’s speak up about our needs.

Food producers have a growing awareness of consumer needs, and the number of gluten-free products available on the market is gradually increasing. However, it also needs to be assured that the gluten-free product is not cross-contaminated with gluten in the store itself.

Join the information campaign:
Our goal is to draw attention of stores and other food selling businesses to cross-contamination* , which is a serious concern for people with coeliac disease.

*Gluten cross-contamination occurs when gluten-free food comes into contact with gluten-containing food. It’s about gluten transfer from one product to another and likelihood of contamination of the gluten-free product.

How do I join?
Print the enclosed Coeliac Goal leaflet
and keep it handy whenever you go shopping. As you notice that a gluten-free product is in contact with a gluten product, especially if a gluten-free flour is placed next to a gluten flour and the latter is spread on the shelf, use the leaflet. Leave it on the shelf or even better give it to the Store Manager or a shop worker.
